Internet walk
Yoyo will present an internet walk. Next week, Rachel will present.
CSS Q&A
Write your name and one question you have about CSS. I will answer them in a demo format!
CSS Layout and Fonts
Last week, you explored some of the basics of CSS. This week we will get a little deeper by talking about CSS layout and CSS typography.
CSS Artwork
From beginning to end, we are going to make webpage recreations of the following two artworks:
Josef Albers
Homage to the Square: “Ascending”
1953
Piet Mondrian
Composition II in Red, Blue, and Yellow
1930
Set up a webpage where you can faithfully remake each artwork using HTML elements (<div>
s, etc.) and CSS. Show me the first piece, then move on to the second.
When you’ve finished both, you can have open workshop time for your third entry.
Homework
Work on entry 3, this time incorporating even more CSS. Start to develop a visual language for your site, and consider the following as you design:
- What mood or feeling do you want your website to convey?
- What kind of typography (fonts, sizes, spacing) feels right for your content?
- How can you use spacing, alignment, and layout to guide the viewer’s attention?
- Are there websites, artworks, or designs that inspire you? What elements could you borrow or remix?
We also have a reading. Read this before next class, and be ready to write a response in the first part of the next class session:
