Internet Walk
Rachel will present an internet walk.
Reading Reflection
We’ll spend 20 minutes writing a reflection on the reading from last week. As you write, I’ll pick out some highlights to discuss as a class.
Post your reflections here: Reading Reflection – A Vernacular Web
CSS Typography
Adding fonts to your site can happen a number of ways. We will discuss a few!

Site Browsing
We’re going to explore some sites and talk about them. When you’re visiting any site, here are some guiding questions to ask yourself about the experience:
- What is the purpose of this site? How is that conveyed?
- What are the main areas of the site? What features does the site have?
- How does this site make you feel? Do you think it was made for a specific audience?
- What era of web design is this from? What’s telling you that?
- What’s the navigation? Is it clear? Are there multiple ways to navigate?
- What kind of space does this site feel like?
Museum sites
Design firm sites
Portfolio sites
Artworks (net art)

Group share
Get into groups of 3 or 4. Show your most recent entry to your peers and talk about it. Each person not presenting should ask questions. For at least five minutes, talk about the design. For another five minutes, show your code and discuss how you achieved the design.
Some prompts:
- How did you arrive at this idea for your latest entry?
- Do you feel like this theme will carry you for the whole semester?
- How did you execute this idea in code?
- Is there a visual identity emerging for the site?
- What mood or feeling do you want your website to convey?
Homework
Work on entry 4, and think about your approach to typography across the site.
Heads up!
There will be no in-person class next week because I will be absent. There will be a lesson posted for you to complete.
